October was Harvest month at our little backyard village garden. The boys picked quite a few ears of
corn as well as quantities of peanuts and green beans. They were very proud of the results of their daily pampering as you can see from the photo. Our days have been full , ministering to the boys
at XBBC and researching the many facets of opening and operating a residence for the t boys. We have learned from other missionaries currently running a residence program that the legal process might be simpler than we expected. First, we have to get a residence facility approved. After that, a simple application and government approval is needed for each boy we want to take in. Surprisingly, we were told that we do not need to ask the parents’ permission. But, after a boy is with us, the parents can request a hearing before a judge to express their desire that the boy live somewhere else. We want to be ready when the Lord says it is time to open a residence, so there is much to investigate and arrange in advance. We continue to prayerfully seek the Lord’s will in this. “Why is Tonton Dowda (Uncle Dave) so big – we never see him eat?” was one of the questions asked by the talibe boys recently.
Dave has been playing indoor soccer with some of the boys but they are so small he can just pick up the goalie and move him out of the way. The boys are really enjoying Dave’s playful spirit with them. O c t o b e r marked the second anniversary of the opening of XBBC.
Please join us in thanking the Lord for His love for the t boys and for your parts and our parts in ministering to these little boys. Harvest time at the talibe Center.
Praises and answered prayers
• The new talibe boy feeding program on Saturdays provided by the Dakar Academy (DA) students
has been a huge success. Almost all of the talibe boys came on the first Saturday, when the program was provided by DA girls. The older boys were pretty amazed to see so many beautiful “toubab” girls in their center and were quite shy, but our ex-talibe, Allasane, was happy to show the girls how to do the ‘Senegalese wrestling dance’. This past week, the Saturday program was done by DA boys who showed the t’s some new basketball games and skills. We are very thankful for more help with caring for the boys and more love being shown to them.
• We just concluded our 3-day Annual Team Conference where we met to pray, discuss and plan for the next year of WorldVenture ministries in Senegal.
We praise the Lord that so many varied ministries are fully engaged across the face of Senegal
to bring the Good News to these people. Many of us have the sense that God is about to do
something really big here. We are thankful to be a part of such exciting times.
Prayer requests
• We don’t often label a prayer request as “Urgent” but this one is pretty critical and also very timely: On the evening of October 30th, one of Dakar Academy’s dorm dads was driving with his wife when they came upon the scene of a hit-and-run accident that had just occurred. A scooter driver had been struck by a car and left unconscious or dead (we do not know for sure) in the road, and the dorm dad could not avoid running over the body, which was subsequently pronounced dead. He has been in police custody since then and awaits a hearing on November 4th. Please pray for protection and comfort for the dorm dad and his young family and that he would soon be released from custody.
• Last month we asked for prayer for all three of our children. The Lord heard your prayers and
is carrying them through their hard times. Thank you for praying. We ask you to continue to pray for
our children, especially since the enemy seems to like to attack us by attacking our children.
• Please pray with us for our XBBC worker, M’Bayang and her family. Her husband, who was a
young man, died suddenly last week. We are thankful that M’Bayang can take comfort in knowing
that he knew the Lord. But this will mean many changes for M’Bayang and her 3 and 6 year old children as they live with their in-laws. Please pray for clarity how we and our mission can help her
emotionally and financially.

• To add to his already somewhat lengthy list of medical maladies, Wesley (our son) developed a rather serious eye infection this month. After lots of prayer, 5 trips to the ophthalmologist and 5 different eye medications, we seem to be getting it under control. We raise the Lord that He has the
power to heal us, and that He hears us when we pray. Praises and answered prayers!
